Leadership Training at its best!
The Purpose of Wood Badge
The purpose of Wood Badge is to develop skilled leaders who can strengthen Scouting units in achieving the mission of the Boy Scouts of America.
What does Wood Badge entail?
The course covers many leadership topics, including but not limited to:
- Listening
- Managing conflict
- Leading change
- Team development
- Coaching & Mentoring
- Leadership skills
- Servant leadership
- Project planning
- And much more!
The program consists of presentations, games, discussions, and activities specially designed to equip you with the skills needed to provide the best scouting experience to today’s youth.
Why should I go?
Not only is Woodbadge an amazing opportunity to make new friends and network with local scouters, but the personal growth and skills cultivated through the course are invaluable. Some key highlights are:
- Stronger units. You will make your Scouting unit, and other units you interact with, stronger.
- What and why of Scouting. You will have a deeper understanding of what Scouting is and why we do it.
- Experience. The things you learn and experience will stay with you in both Scouting and the rest of your life.
- Fun. This amazing program gives you the opportunity to network with other scouters in a fun and engaging environment.
- Other groups. The leadership and team building skills cultivated in this program can be carried over to other groups you are involved in, enabling you to strengthen relationships at work, church, and family.
What does the Course Require?
Wood Badge consists of two parts. The first is a five-day practical program offered during two camping weekends. The second part, completed over the following 18 months, requires participants to apply the skills they have learned by completing five goals (tickets) leading towards the participant’s vision of a better Scouting future.
To be eligible to take Wood Badge participants must:
- Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America age 18 or older.
- Have completed the basic training courses for your Scouting position.
- Be capable of functioning safely in an outdoor environment. All participants are required to complete the Annual Health and Medical Record. Parts A, B, and C are required. Part C is required for everyone, including people who are not present for more than 72 hours.
